Clinical Instruction is designed to provide students with a broad background in clinical aspects of urology. This includes current developments in patient management as well as various areas of research in the speciality. The urology clerkship should enable students to decide whether they are interested in a career in urology and the best way to prepare themselves to attain that goal.

Residency Program, a four-year program, after completion of two years of general surgery, is intended to bridge the gap between the medical and surgical management of uropathology by preparing physicians to thoroughly evaluate, understand, and manage all aspects of genitourinary disease. The first, third, and fourth years are clinical years spent at SUMC and its affiliated hospitals. The second year is spent doing research in the laboratories of the Department of Urology, where residents work on projects of their own or join one or more of the faculty's research programs. Two residents are accepted each year to the program after completion of a year of internship and a minimum of one year of surgical residency.

Postdoctoral Training opportunities are available. For information, refer to the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs home page at http://postdocs.stanford.edu/ or the departmental home page.
